Finally watched it! Watching Morbius right after rewatching season 2 of The Boys didn’t do Morbius any favors whatsoever, which it desperately needed. Where The Boys points out the flaws of superhero movies in an intentional, intelligent way that forces the viewer to think differently about how they view superheroes and superhero media, Morbius embodies every single flaw that a superhero movie could possibly have, the only thing Morbius will make viewers rethink about superhero media is that it's all a complete waste of time and money. Morbius is just as bad as everyone thought it would be based on the trailer, the poster, the name of the movie, and the star.

Morbius is a sad, pathetic little movie that has no identity of its own, desperately trying to associate itself with the Marvel universe and the Venom movies, because the best it can do is trick moviegoers into thinking it’s a part of something they actually like (an attempt that luckily failed spectacularly). For all the memes that have been going around for months, there’s really not much to this movie at all, making all those memes even funnier to me.

The actual quality of the movie is very easy to get out of the way quickly, so I will. The music and cinematography are derivative of every other superhero movie made in the past decade, the script and pacing is reminiscent of early 2000s F-tier superhero movies like Daredevil and Blade: Trinity and the special effects look like video games at best and Snapchat filters at worst. Seriously, the vampire faces on Morbius and Milo are fucking laughable.

Much like The Amazing Spider-Man and Venom, Morbius reeks that slimy, empty corporate profit-over-ANY-artistic-merit corporate-driven filmmaking that Sony has been known for in the past decade. While it’s not as apparent as something like Suicide Squad or the theatrical cut of Justice League, it is very apparent that this is nothing more than a movie hobbled together by producers with absolutely no creative vision other than a desperate attempt to make a quick buck by slapping the Marvel logo on a garbage movie. Morbius is ultimately a big uninspired nothing that is occasionally so pathetic it’s funny. Not as funny as bombing in theaters twice though.
